Choral Scholars & Lay Clerks

CHORAL SCHOLARS

Choral Scholars are funded positions given to a high school or degree‐seeking undergraduate students in a department or school of music, following a successful audition.  Alternatively, the scholarship may be given to a degree‐seeking student in a non‐music discipline, dependent upon demonstrable choral training and singing ability.  Choral Scholars are recruited to sing in the Cathedral Choir, and occasionally are appointed to lead responsorial singing, service music, and, on rare occasions, to lead a sectional rehearsal. These positions are given during or prior to the academic year.  Auditions take place the first week in September and throughout the year as needed.  Positions are held from September through mid-June and may be renewed for successive years if both the Choral Scholar and the Director of Music mutually agree.

Qualifications

  1. High level of musicianship and skill
  2. Knowledge of choral singing and ability to collaborate with others
  3. Good communication skills
  4. Dependable leadership skills
